In addition to creating, delivering and managing online course assignments using Moodle and Google Classroom, I have personally used tools like Captivate and Articulate 360. I am also versed in online course platforms like Kajabi and Teachable.
A sample of the types of online tools, apps and assignments I created over the years:
- Storyboarding the sequence of events in a novel or short story, using storyboardthat.com.
- Creating a video and vocal narration of a short contemporary poem. Students could use the video and editing apps of their choice. Final videos were posted and shared on FlipGrid.
- Structured online research projects and scavenger hunts.
- Student presentations that required the use of PowerPoint or Google Slides, online apps and gamification components like quizzes on Kahoot!
Although most of my digital teaching work is no longer accessible online, generally I have always translated and innovated on proven research-based teaching tools like using graphic organizers like Venn Diagrams, Comparison Charts, Tree Mapping, Narrative Sequence Charts, Brainstorming Webs, Outlining, Graphic Organizers (narrative, cause-and-effect, compare/contrast, categorization, episodic, general to specific categorization), and Cooperative Learning (teams, partners). All or most of these activities can be adapted for online learning, depending on the available tools. Here, I’ve posted some static examples of the level and types of things I created for the traditional classroom. Handouts and workbooks are still important aspects of learning, since notetaking and writing by hand have been proven to increase the retention of new information.
Additionally, the level of work, regardless of the delivery system, should eventually address all levels and activities from Bloom’s Taxonomy.
