Creating the Academy

In the academy courses I created for Helium 10, I researched content, along with staff and user needs, worked with subject matter experts, designed the courses and lessons, reviewed and organized existing resources, created additional resources, including lessons and quizzes, and coordinated with marketing on the look and branding of the site. After launch, I managed the platform, its lesson and certification exam updates, tracked user progress reports, and troubleshot user issues and needs. I also created and built the knowledge base. The two approaches I use to create and design a course are ADDIE and SAM.

The ADDIE process is outlined and explained many times over on the web. The University of Washington’s model explanation is a great overview.

I am also familiar with SAM, a simpler and more recursive process for creating an e-learning program. Which method a company decides to go with will depend on the company culture, the desired outcomes, and the resources available.
